Jonathan Livingston Seagull written by Richard Bach
I read this book when I was in middle school, so I knew the contents, but I happened to find an English book in the library so I can read it again
“Jonathan Livingstone Seagull” is a contemporary fairytale that relies on modern time themes. Unlike the traditional fairytales where I have mythical creatures here I have fictional creatures.
It’s not only a modern fairytale but also an allegorical story because the whole plot points out to something more that the story appears to be telling. Because of that, I could say that I have a combination of an allegorical story and a modern fairytale.
By writing a story about a seagull that was never satisfied with something average but always wanted to accomplish something more Richard Bach actually wrote about human life and the way a single person functions inside a community.
The time and place are not specified but it is generalized that the place is the sea and the shore and that it is present time.
I realized that “He spoke of very simple things- that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form.
Our potential is limited only to the extent we let it to be and I do not mean in ‘we as humans use only 10% of our potential’ way, but more often than not, we are limited by our perception of what we are capable of achieving. Changing that mindset is solely under my control. Why should I let someone else tell us what I can and can’t do?
reading a book that I had read impressively before in english again, It was fresh and another emotion came. if I have time in the future, I should read other book in english again
