I heard the following story about this book and this led to my interest in the book. “this George Orwell's Animal Farm, best known for its 100 modern English novels, Newsweek's 100 best-known books is a masterpiece by the American University Commission and is the work of the British novelist George Orwell, who gained worldwide fame.
The book can relate to the today’s world in which people still fight with injustice because there are different ideals of “free” societies” and there are different groups of people fighting the system with a blurred vision of what they want and have to do to tear down the system. Power corrupts people and every revolution ends up being what if fought against.
Orwell criticizes many problems of our society like greed and power thirst which are embodied in the pigs and the absolute obedience and lack of critical thinking which are embodied in the sheep. All of his critics are tightly wrapped in the pleasant animal world.
I think the reason pigs were able to dictatorship was because of the helplessness and ignorance of the animals. In other words, it's because you know things are not going well, but you don't want to fix it. It's similar like our politics. If we become indifferent to politics, politicians like pigs will wield power for their own benefit and do it for their own sake.
Even though it's an allegory, it's a novel that i think a lot of things seem to talk about our political realities.
I will be reading another famous novel, 1984 written by George Orwell.
In addition, since the current political situation in Korea and novels are very similar, I will try not to fall into totalitarianism while constantly paying attention to politics.
